Synopsis
My King (Mon roi, 2015) is a French drama from director Maïwenn that you can watch online on iFILM. After a bad ski accident, lawyer Tony lands in a rehab center, and while her body mends she replays the ten most destructive years of her love life.
It began at a party, where she met Georgio: charming, restless, impossible to pin down. Emmanuelle Bercot plays a woman whose desire for this man lifts her up and wrecks her in turn. Vincent Cassel makes Georgio both irresistible and selfish, the kind of partner you can neither live with nor leave. The film cuts between her present in the clinic and bursts of memory, assembling a relationship where joy and damage are hard to tell apart.
Maïwenn films love with no illusions, treating it like an addiction that takes years to recover from. Bercot won Best Actress at Cannes for this, and earns it, carrying Tony from blind infatuation to hard-won clarity. Worth a watch if you want raw, grown-up cinema about codependency.
