Synopsis
The Duke of Burgundy (2015) is a British art-house drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Peter Strickland. Cynthia is a lepidopterist who studies moths and butterflies. Her partner Evelyn arrives each morning as a housemaid. The ritual plays out with the precision of a laboratory routine — until the cracks begin to show.
Shot as a deliberate homage to 1970s European erotic cinema, the film has almost no male characters, a lush visual palette, and a score by Cat's Eyes that sounds like perfume smells. Sidse Babett Knudsen and Chiara D'Anna carry the entire weight of the story: one woman wants to ease back from their game of dominance and submission; the other wants to push deeper into it. At 104 minutes, The Duke of Burgundy moves at its own quiet pace, more interested in the texture of longing than in resolution. Stream it online on iFILM.
