Valentine's Day, 1900: three students and a governess disappear at Hanging Rock outside Melbourne, leaving behind a school — and a headmistress — that will never recover.

Natalie Dormer plays Mrs. Appleyard with a control that looks like strength until it doesn't. Lily Sullivan and Samara Weaving play students whose lives were tightly managed before the disappearance and no less tightly managed after. Directors Michael Rymer and Larysa Kondracki keep the camera close and airless, treating the school itself as the real site of horror.
