She gets a new name, an apartment, a boyfriend she actually loves, and phone calls that send her out to kill. Gabriel Byrne plays the man who is both her mentor and her jailer, and Harvey Keitel turns up as an ice-cold cleaner.

This is Hollywood's remake of Luc Besson's French thriller La Femme Nikita, repackaged in glossy early-nineties style. Fonda runs the whole thing on a single tension: the better Maggie gets at the job, the more she aches for an ordinary life.
