Synopsis
Blue Thunder (1983) is a John Badham action thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Los Angeles gets a new toy: an armored attack helicopter packed with surveillance gear, thermal scanners and a rotating cannon. Flying it is police pilot Frank Murphy, a Vietnam vet still rattled by flashbacks.
The chopper is sold to the public as anti-terror security ahead of the Olympics. During a test run, though, Murphy overhears something he wasn't meant to hear — the aircraft is really built to spy on the city's own people, and powerful men want that secret buried. Roy Scheider plays the pilot who suddenly becomes the target. Malcolm McDowell is the icy officer pulling the strings. The climactic dogfight over downtown rooftops was shot with real aircraft, no CGI in sight.
