Synopsis
Vision Quest (1985) is Harold Becker's coming-of-age sports drama, free to watch online on iFILM. Eighteen-year-old wrestler Louden Swain wants his life to add up to more than a few school trophies.
So he sets an impossible goal: drop two weight classes and face Shute, the undefeated brute every wrestler in the state dreads. His coach objects, his body rebels, his grades slide. Then his father rents a room to Carla (Linda Fiorentino), an older drifter passing through on her way to San Francisco. Louden (Matthew Modine) falls hard for the first time, and it knocks him off course more than any opponent could.
Becker isn't really filming a sport — he's filming eighteen, the age when obsession and first love pull in opposite directions. Forest Whitaker shows up in a small early part, and the soundtrack launched Madonna's "Crazy for You," the singer herself glimpsed performing in a club.
