Synopsis

Zulu (2013) is Jérôme Salle's crime thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. A French-South African drama, it pairs Forest Whitaker with Orlando Bloom.

Cape Town, present day. The homicide unit catches what looks like a routine case: a young white woman brutally killed. The trail refuses to stay simple. It runs through the drug trade, then through gangs with no limits, and finally toward a multinational corporation that has its own reasons to keep the police away. Two mismatched detectives work it together — Ali Neuman, the unit's Black chief still carrying the wreckage of an apartheid-era childhood, and a partner fighting demons of his own. The deeper they dig, the higher the cost.

Adapted from the novel by French writer Caryl Férey, the film screened out of competition at Cannes. It's a harsh, sometimes punishing portrait of a country that never fully closed its old wounds, and Whitaker plays his lead less as an investigator than as a man with the past lodged under his skin like shrapnel. Not for squeamish viewers, but a strong pick for anyone drawn to bleak social noir. Stream Zulu (2013) online on iFILM.
