Synopsis
Summer of Sam (1999) is Spike Lee's crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. New York, the summer of 1977: a record heatwave has turned the Bronx into a pressure cooker, and a .44-caliber gunman the tabloids call Son of Sam is picking victims at random on the night streets of an Italian-American neighborhood.
Lee's focus isn't the killer — it's the people living inside the panic. John Leguizamo plays Vinny, a disco regular with a cheating habit and a rising paranoia about everyone around him. Adrien Brody is Ritchie, a local kid who came back from the city with a mohawk and a punk attitude, which makes him a convenient target when frightened neighbors need someone to blame. Mira Sorvino, Jennifer Esposito, and Bebe Neuwirth round out the ensemble. Real news footage and a cameo by columnist Jimmy Breslin anchor the story to its specific, sweltering moment.
