Synopsis
Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2013) is a South Korean tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Yong-gu is a gentle, intellectually disabled man raising his six-year-old daughter Ye-sung on his own. When a child dies in an accident, he is wrongly accused of murder and sentenced to death.
Locked up with hardened criminals in cell number seven, Yong-gu is mocked at first. Then his cellmates hear his story and hatch a plan to smuggle his little girl inside to see him. Director Lee Hwan-kyung swings between broad slapstick and gut-punch sorrow — you laugh at the clumsy smuggling scheme one minute and choke up the next. Ryu Seung-ryong and tiny Kal So-won carry the whole thing.
The film became one of Korea's biggest box-office hits and spawned remakes from Turkey to India. It is openly manipulative and makes no apology for wanting your tears — and it earns them. Bring tissues. Stream Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2013) online on iFILM.
