Sandra Bullock plays Jane "Calamity" Bodine, once the best campaign strategist in the business, now hiding out in the mountains. A long-shot candidate pulls her back into the game, and she sells voters fear instead of policy: convince a country that disaster is coming, then run the man who claims he can stop it. Billy Bob Thornton is her old rival across the aisle, a smooth operator who plays just as dirty. Anthony Mackie runs the war room, and Joaquim de Almeida is the unloved client they have to get elected.

The story grew out of Rachel Boynton's documentary about a real 2002 election, with George Clooney and Grant Heslov producing.
