Vinny has other plans, lifting weights in his parents' basement while still forbidden to remove the brace. Aaron Eckhart plays the washed-up trainer Kevin Rooney, once Mike Tyson's man, and Ciarán Hinds is the father who's equally proud and terrified of what his son is about to do.

Director Ben Younger built the film from the life of the real-life 1990s champion. Teller bulked up and skipped a body double for the ring scenes, and the movie leans on stubbornness bordering on lunacy rather than easy uplift. No sugary speech to close it out.
