Synopsis

Gorillas in the Mist (1988) is Michael Apted's drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Sigourney Weaver plays Dian Fossey, the naturalist who walked away from an ordinary life to study mountain gorillas deep in Central Africa.

Fossey first arrives in Rwanda just to count a shrinking population of rare apes. The longer she lives alone at her camp high in the volcanoes, the closer she grows to the animals — and the harder she fights the poachers killing them for trophies and zoos. Her crusade curdles into obsession, fractures her romance with National Geographic photographer Bob Campbell, and ultimately gets her killed. Weaver's work here landed her an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe.

The script draws on Fossey's own journals and memoir, and the production shot in the real misted forests of Rwanda, with live gorillas sharing the frame. It's a forceful watch for anyone drawn to wildlife and to the price one person pays for standing between an animal and a profit. Stream Gorillas in the Mist (1988) online on iFILM.
