George of the Jungle

George of the Jungle (1997) is a Disney live-action comedy you can watch online on iFILM, based on the 1960s animated series. Brendan Fraser plays George — a jungle-raised, muscle-bound hero with a gift for crashing into every tree he tries to swing past.

George grew up among gorillas in the African rainforest. His closest companion is Ape, a sarcastic talking gorilla voiced by John Cleese. Things get complicated when Ursula, played by Leslie Mann, wanders into his territory on a safari. She came for exotic wildlife. She leaves with George in tow, heading for San Francisco — a city full of obstacles that work exactly like trees. Thomas Haden Church plays the scheming antagonist who wants to ship George back into the wild.

Director Sam Weisman keeps a cheerful running narrator who addresses the audience mid-scene and cheerfully ignores the fourth wall. The film spawned a 2003 direct-to-video sequel, and Fraser's elastic physical comedy carries the whole thing. Watch George of the Jungle (1997) online on iFILM.
