Synopsis

The Italian Job (1969) is the British crime caper you can watch online on iFILM — equal parts heist thriller and deadpan comedy, with a young Michael Caine front and centre and Peter Collinson directing.

Fresh out of prison, Charlie Croker picks up a job that got his late friend killed: lift four million dollars in gold out of Turin. Backing comes from behind bars, where crime boss Mr Bridger, played by Noël Coward, funds the whole circus. The scheme is gloriously cheeky. Jam the city's traffic into total gridlock, snatch the gold, then vanish through Turin's rooftops, arcades and sewers in three nippy Mini Coopers.

What sealed its cult status is that ending — a literal cliffhanger nobody has stopped arguing about. Add Quincy Jones' brassy score and Caine's much-quoted line about blowing the bloody doors off, and you get a heist movie with zero grimness and all swagger. Perfect when you want larceny that grins instead of glowers. Stream The Italian Job (1969) online on iFILM.
