Synopsis

FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992) is Bill Kroyer's animated fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. A whole society of tiny fairies lives deep in the rainforest, unaware that logging crews are already cutting their way toward home.

When the sprite Crysta accidentally shrinks a human teenager named Zak down to fairy size, he finds himself stranded among the spirits of the forest. Together they set out to stop the bulldozers, but the real danger comes from a felled tree that releases Hexxus, an ancient force of pollution that grows stronger on oil and smoke. From there it falls to a handful of pint-sized heroes to keep FernGully from burning to ash.

Tim Curry voices Hexxus with oily menace, while Robin Williams riffs his way through the bat Batty in lines fans still quote. The environmental message lands with no subtlety at all, but the hand-drawn animation and that early-nineties soundtrack carry plenty of nostalgia. A solid family pick for kids meeting the deforestation conversation for the first time. Stream FernGully (1992) online on iFILM.
