The Hidden

The Hidden (1987) is a sci-fi action thriller from director Jack Sholder, and you can watch online on iFILM. A wave of senseless violence hits Los Angeles: quiet, law-abiding people suddenly rob banks, tear through traffic in stolen sports cars, and gun down strangers for no reason at all.

Detective Tom Beck (Michael Nouri) is buried in the case when the bureau saddles him with agent Lloyd Gallagher. Kyle MacLachlan plays the partner as a man who stares at corpses without flinching, asks the wrong questions, and clearly knows far more than he admits. What looks like a crime spree turns into something nastier: an alien parasite that leaps body to body, hungry for fast cars, loud music and bigger guns.

Made on a lean budget, it runs as a pure chase with a streak of black comedy and a coldly downbeat payoff, which is exactly why it earned a devoted cult following. MacLachlan shot this a year before Twin Peaks, and that off-kilter calm is already in place. Easy pick for fans of The Terminator and 80s body-snatcher horror.
