Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) is Stephen Herek's sci-fi comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Two San Dimas high schoolers care about exactly one thing: their band. History class is not going well.

Flunk the final report and Ted gets shipped off to military school, which ends the band before it starts. Help shows up from the future in the form of Rufus (George Carlin), riding a time machine disguised as a phone booth. So instead of cramming, the guys go fetch their sources in person. Soon Napoleon, Socrates, Joan of Arc and Genghis Khan are loose in a shopping mall. Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves play the slacker duo with a goofy sincerity that makes them impossible to dislike.

This was one of Keanu Reeves' first big screen roles, and the movie spawned endless quotes and two sequels, including 2020's Bill & Ted Face the Music. The dim surfer slang, the air-guitar riffs standing in for dialogue, the dopey faith that being excellent to each other fixes everything: that is what keeps it alive decades later.
