Saving Grace

Saving Grace (2000) is Nigel Cole's British crime comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Newly widowed, a prim Cornish housewife discovers her late husband left her no inheritance at all, just a mountain of secret debt.

Grace Trevethyn (Brenda Blethyn) is about to lose her house. No money, no profession, but she does have a greenhouse and a gift with plants that the whole village talks about. The nudge comes from her own gardener, Matthew (Craig Ferguson), whose hidden cannabis plant is dying. Grace agrees to save it. Then she goes further and starts growing premium marijuana on an industrial scale, right there in her glasshouse for all the neighbours to see.

Cole plays it as a cosy comedy of manners in the vein of The Full Monty: warm British wit, eccentric locals, not a trace of cynicism. Blethyn carries the whole thing, her unflappable lady taking up the drug trade with the tone of a garden-club meeting. Stream Saving Grace (2000) online on iFILM.
