Synopsis
The Bubble (2022) is a Judd Apatow comedy for Netflix you can watch online on iFILM. The cast and crew of a ludicrous flying-dinosaur action franchise lock down at a swanky English hotel and try to finish a sequel without ever stepping past the gates.
Karen Gillan plays an actress coaxed back into the series she once walked out on. Around her swirl a pile of inflated egos: Leslie Mann, David Duchovny, Pedro Pascal, Keegan-Michael Key, and a TikTok star played by Iris Apatow. The quarantine drags on, the COVID tests keep going wrong, everyone slowly loses it, and the producers still demand the movie gets delivered on schedule.
Apatow aims his jokes squarely at Hollywood itself, the bloated mega-franchises, the diva meltdowns, and the sheer absurdity of shooting through a pandemic. The humor is loose, improvised, and deliberately silly, so it lands best if you already enjoy his earlier work and don't expect fine-grained satire. Watch for cameos from Maria Bakalova and Beck.
