About

Synopsis

Funny People (2009) — watch online writer-director Judd Apatow's dramatic comedy on iFILM, starring Adam Sandler as George Simmons, a wealthy stand-up comedian who gets a terminal blood disease diagnosis and about twelve months to figure out who he actually is.

George hires Ira Wright — Seth Rogen, a struggling open-mic comic — to write jokes and keep him company. Ira gets a ringside seat to what fame really looks like up close: the empty house, the dead phone, the man who built a career making strangers laugh but can't say anything true to the people he hurt. Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman play Ira's roommates, equally hungry and less burdened.

Apatow runs the film for 146 minutes — longer than most comedies dare — because the second half shifts gears entirely when Leslie Mann and Eric Bana enter the picture. The laughs don't stop, but neither does the discomfort. Stream Funny People (2009) online on iFILM.
