Synopsis
Suvorovets 1944 (2024) is a Russian wartime drama you can watch online on iFILM. The story unfolds in a remote Siberian village during the final year of the war. Thirteen-year-old Vovka Kulikov comes home after a year at the Suvorov Military School, expecting a quiet break. He finds anything but.
His father, the chairman of the collective farm, has left for the front. With the men gone, a gang of robbers preys on the village, scaring people away from the fields and threatening the entire harvest. Vovka refuses to wait for someone else to act. He takes the safety of his family and friends into his own hands and squares off against armed grown men.
Directed by Denis Kazantsev, the film stars Vsevolod Kazantsev, Pavel Polyakov, Alexandra Kazantseva and Andrey Yakovlev. It is a small, plain-spoken picture about a boy forced into manhood ahead of his years, light on battle scenes and heavy on rural detail. Rated for ages six and up, it works as family viewing too.
