Synopsis
The Shadowless Tower (白塔之光, 2023) is a Chinese drama from director Zhang Lu that you can watch online on iFILM, starring Xin Baiqing and Huang Yao. Gu Wentong is a divorced food critic living mostly on habit — his daughter lives with his sister, his career runs on autopilot, and the father who walked out on the family forty years ago haunts him more than he would ever admit.
When Gu learns his estranged father has settled in the seaside resort town of Beidaihe, a chance friendship with Ouyang — a young photographer who happens to be from there — finally gives him a reason to go. Tian Zhuangzhuang, one of the most acclaimed directors of China's Fifth Generation, takes a supporting role in front of the camera, lending the film a quiet gravity.
