Russians on Marienplatz (2022) — watch online on iFILM — is a Kazakh adventure drama co-directed by Gulnara Sarsenova, Vakhtangi Khubutia, and Dito Tsintsadze. The 1990s. Circus performer Edik Petrov steals a T-72 tank from the crumbling Soviet Union and points it toward Germany.
The problem: the tank's driver, Nartai Saparkaliyev, was on duty inside. He crosses the border as an accidental stowaway. Edik is relieved to be gone from a country he stopped believing in. Nartai just wants to go home. As Soviet brass works out how to retrieve him, Nartai settles into Munich — finding his footing, helping strangers, becoming part of something he never intended to join.
