Two Captains (Season 1)

Two Captains (Два капитана, 1977) is a Soviet adventure series you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Evgeny Karelov. It adapts Veniamin Kaverin's novel — written from 1938 to 1944, partly during the Leningrad blockade — about a boy whose entire life is shaped by a single discovery.

At the turn of the twentieth century, ten-year-old Sanya Grigoryev fishes a waterlogged bag of letters from a river — correspondence from the members of a lost polar expedition. The discovery becomes the axis of everything that follows: Sanya grows up to become a military pilot (Boris Tokarev), survives the front, and keeps pressing toward the truth about who was responsible for the expedition's disappearance. Yuri Bogatyryov, Nikolai Gritsenko, and Irina Pechernikova anchor the supporting cast across the series' timeline.
