Cole Young (Lewis Tan) is a down-and-out MMA fighter with a mysterious birthmark — until the ice-cold assassin Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) shows up trying to kill him. The mark turns out to be the seal of a chosen Earthrealm champion, and Cole gets pulled into training alongside Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) and Kung Lao (Max Huang). Standing against them: sorcerer Shang Tsung (Chin Han) and the full might of Outworld. Running parallel is the story of samurai Hanzo Hasashi — played by Hiroyuki Sanada — whose vendetta stretches across centuries and ties directly into the main conflict.
