Synopsis
The Mechanism (O Mecanismo, 2018) is a Brazilian crime series you can watch online on iFILM. Co-created by José Padilha of Narcos fame, it stars Selton Mello as a detective pulling one thread that unravels half the country.
It opens with dirty cash flowing through a car wash in Curitiba. The trail climbs from there to a state oil giant, rigged construction contracts and offices investigators rarely get to enter. A small team of cops and prosecutors fights to prove what everyone already suspects but no one dares say out loud. The story takes its cues from a scandal that shook Brazilian politics, with names and details reworked for the screen.
Across two seasons it plays like a slow unknotting: each arrest reaches a more powerful name, and the deeper they dig, the more dangerous it gets. Padilha films corruption with no heroic gloss — the mud sticks to both sides, and the law never walks away clean. Fans of Narcos and its documentary bite will feel right at home.
