A young woman visits Baker Street: her father died under suspicious circumstances a decade ago, and anonymous letters have since started arriving. The trail winds through a colonial-era murder, a fortune traced back to an Indian fortress, and a network of old grudges that are very much alive. Watson, meanwhile, is about to meet someone who interests him far more than the case does.
