Synopsis
Eva (2018) is a French erotic drama from Benoît Jacquot, available to watch online on iFILM. Young playwright Bertrand passed off a dead man's script as his own, woke up famous, and now cannot write a single line that is truly his.
A snowstorm strands him at a stranger's chalet, where he meets Eva. She is cold, mocking, a sex worker who sets her own terms and has no interest in letting him in. Bertrand becomes obsessed — less with the woman than with the character he could finally put on the page. He follows her, pays her, lies to her, and the line between research and ruin thins with every scene. Gaspard Ulliel and Isabelle Huppert play the duel at a glacial distance.
Jacquot adapts the James Hadley Chase novel that Joseph Losey already filmed in the 1960s with Jeanne Moreau. This Eva runs drier and crueler: a story about a writer draining a living person for material. One for viewers who like French cinema with a false bottom and no happy ending.
