Somewhere in Time

Somewhere in Time (1980) is a romantic fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. On the opening night of his first play, a young Chicago playwright is approached by an elderly stranger who presses an antique watch into his hand and whispers, "Come back to me."

Years later, Richard Collier finds a 1912 photograph of stage actress Elise McKenna and recognizes the same woman. The obsession takes over. By talking himself into a kind of self-hypnosis, he wills his way back to the past, to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, hoping to meet her in her own era. Christopher Reeve, fresh off Superman, plays Richard; Jane Seymour is Elise, with Christopher Plummer as her controlling manager.

Directed by Jeannot Szwarc from Richard Matheson's novel, the film flopped on release, then found a devoted cult following over the decades. John Barry's score did much of that work and remains beloved on its own. Stream Somewhere in Time (1980) online on iFILM.
