Synopsis
Set in occupied Normandy in 1944, Atlantic Wall (Le Mur de l'Atlantique, 1970) is a French-Italian wartime comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Léon Duchemin runs a roadside restaurant with his sister and wants no part of the war — even though his regulars include German officers, Resistance fighters and black marketeers all at once.
His careful neutrality collapses when a downed British pilot turns up hiding in his attic. One reluctant favour leads to another, and through a chain of blunders the timid café owner ends up swiping the plans for Hitler's V1 flying bombs. Cue chases, disguises and slapstick mix-ups right under the occupiers' noses.
The film stars Bourville, one of France's best-loved comic actors, and was directed by Marcel Camus of Black Orpheus fame. The real draw is Bourville himself: his flustered, well-meaning Léon turns a spy caper into gentle, big-hearted farce. Stream Atlantic Wall (1970) online on iFILM.
