Synopsis

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Season 8 — nine episodes, watch online on iFILM. CNN documentary series, 2016.

The season opens with what became a widely shared image: Bourdain and President Barack Obama on plastic stools at a Hanoi sidewalk restaurant, sharing bún chả for $6, no protocol. From there — Nashville hot chicken with Alison Mosshart, Sichuan province where Bourdain introduces a willing but unprepared Eric Ripert to face-numbing peppers, London surveyed days after the Brexit vote, multicultural Houston, Japan's Kanazawa outdoor markets and an omakase with Masa Takayama, Buenos Aires steak culture with Francis Mallmann (carried over from Season 7), the mining heartland of Minas Gerais, and a Rome episode shot with Asia Argento and Abel Ferrara that reads more like a short film than a food travel show.

Nine destinations, none of them alike — the widest range the show had reached by that point. Stream Season 8 of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown online on iFILM.
