Synopsis
Mystify: Michael Hutchence (2019) is an Australian documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director Richard Lowenstein — the man behind most of INXS's defining music videos and one of Hutchence's closest friends — assembled the film from archival concert footage, home video, and candid testimonies from people who loved him.
Michael Hutchence fronted INXS from 1977 until his death in Sydney in November 1997. Everyone who knew him — Kylie Minogue, Helena Christensen, Bono, Liam and Noel Gallagher — describes the same pull. The film traces what changed after a head injury in 1992 left him altered and increasingly at odds with himself. Concert recordings, personal recollections and private archive material combine into a portrait of someone who seemed to belong everywhere and never quite felt at home.
