Synopsis
La Cocina (2024) is Alonso Ruizpalacios' black-and-white drama about a Times Square restaurant that you can watch online on iFILM. The lunch rush becomes a portrait of immigrant America, shot almost entirely behind the swinging kitchen doors.
Undocumented cook Pedro (Raúl Briones) is pulled between the pressure of the line and a tangled romance with waitress Julia, played by Rooney Mara. When cash goes missing from the register, suspicion spreads through the staff and every fragile hope on the crew starts to wobble.
Ruizpalacios builds something nearly plotless yet dense — about labour, language and a dream that's promised but never handed over.
