Synopsis
Landscape in the Mist (1988) is a drama by Greek director Theo Angelopoulos that you can watch online on iFILM. A brother and sister run away from home to find the father their mother says is waiting somewhere in Germany.
Eleven-year-old Voula and her younger brother Alexandros sneak onto night trains and cross a wintry Greece on foot. They have never met their father; he may not exist at all. Along the road they fall in with a fading troupe of traveling actors, meet lonely truck drivers on empty highways, run into sudden cruelty, and feel a first flicker of adult tenderness. Angelopoulos holds his shots for minutes on end, until snow, fog and a grey sea almost erase the line between waking and dream.
This is a slow road movie about growing up, where the journey matters far more than the destination. It earned Angelopoulos the Silver Lion at Venice in 1988 and, a year later, the very first European Film Award for best film. Don't come for plot twists or a tidy ending; this is cinema for viewers willing to watch patiently and stay with it. Stream Landscape in the Mist online on iFILM.
