The Painting

"The Painting" (Le Tableau, 2011) is a French animated film by Jean-François Laguionie you can watch online on iFILM. An artist walked away from his canvas mid-work, leaving behind a world divided: completed figures rule, sketches are second-class, and the blank ones barely exist at all. Young Lola refuses to live by those rules.

She steps out of the painting and into the real world, dragging a small group of friends along to track down the Artist. The journey takes them through other canvases — Impressionist fields, Baroque halls — each governed by its own visual logic.
