Synopsis
Les Souvenirs (2014) is a French tragicomedy by Jean-Paul Rouve that you can watch online on iFILM. Twenty-three-year-old Romain dreams of becoming a writer, but for now he works the night desk at a hotel.
His sixty-two-year-old father has just retired and seems to have stopped caring about anything at all. His eighty-five-year-old grandmother, meanwhile, is stuck in a retirement home and can't fathom what she's doing among all these old people. So one day she simply walks out. Romain goes looking for her, and the search pulls him back through his own childhood memories. The cast brings together Michel Blanc, Annie Cordy, Mathieu Spinosi and Rouve himself.
Rouve crafts a quiet film about three generations, about time slipping away, and about tenderness you don't always get around to voicing. It's melancholy with a smile, never a tearjerker.
