Synopsis
Valley Uprising (2014) is a rock-climbing documentary you can watch online on iFILM, charting fifty years of vertical obsession on the granite walls of Yosemite. Peter Sarsgaard narrates. It traces how a band of dirtbags living out of campgrounds became the founding myth of American climbing.
Back in the 1960s the valley grew its own counterculture — dumpster meals, all-night parties, and an open war with the conservative Park Service rangers. From pioneers like Royal Robbins and Warren Harding the story moves to Lynn Hill, first to free-climb the Nose of El Capitan, then on to Dean Potter, Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold edging toward ropeless ascents.
Directors Josh Lowell, Nick Rosen and Peter Mortimer stitch rare footage and archive into a fast, competitive tale of rivalry, risk and gravity. Essential for anyone who climbs, and a surprisingly gripping way in for those who don't. Stream Valley Uprising (2014) online on iFILM.
