The Fundamentals of Caring

The Fundamentals of Caring (2016) is a road-trip dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. Ben, a writer stuck in his own grief, takes a job as a caregiver and lands with an eighteen-year-old who never leaves the house.

Trevor has muscular dystrophy and a sharp tongue he uses to test every adult who walks in. Paul Rudd plays Ben; Craig Roberts plays Trevor. They start out wary of each other, then the wisecracks soften into something like friendship. So the two of them hit the open road across the western states, hunting roadside oddities and the world's deepest pit. Along the way they pick up Dot, a runaway played by Selena Gomez.

Rob Burnett wrote and directed it from Jonathan Evison's novel, and it premiered at Sundance. The film is a quiet story about two guarded people learning to loosen their grip on control.
