Synopsis
Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens (2020) is a Comedy Central sitcom you can watch online on iFILM. Awkwafina plays a barely fictional version of herself: Nora is pushing thirty, has no plan, and drives for cash on the days she bothers to work.
Nora Lin shares an outer-borough apartment with her dad (BD Wong) and her blunt, unstoppable grandmother (Lori Tan Chinn), while every family dinner parades a flawless cousin with a Silicon Valley career who makes her look like one long disappointment. The episodes are built from cringe-comedy beats of arrested adulthood: botched interviews, bad dates, half-baked schemes to cover rent and work out who she even is. The humor runs crude and absurd, yet underneath sits an honest portrait of an Asian American family that yells, loves, and clings to one another.
The series grew out of the real life of Nora Lum — a rapper turned screen star (Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell). Guests include Margaret Cho and Bowen Yang, and a handful of episodes were directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert before Everything Everywhere All at Once.
