Alan Harper (Jon Cryer) gets dumped by his wife and moves into his brother's beachfront Malibu house with his ten-year-old son Jake in tow. The brother is Charlie — no last name needed — a jingle writer who spends his days drinking, charming women and successfully avoiding anything resembling responsibility. Jake tries to do homework in the middle of all this. The housekeeper Berta, played by Conchata Ferrell, watches the whole circus with the composure of someone who stopped being surprised years ago. When Charlie Sheen left the show in 2011, Ashton Kutcher stepped in as Walden Schmidt, a freshly heartbroken internet billionaire who buys the house and keeps the chaos going.
