Come to Daddy

Come to Daddy (2019) is a horror-tinged black comedy you can watch online on iFILM, starring Elijah Wood. Norval, a pampered man-child, gets a cryptic letter from the father he hasn't seen in thirty years and travels out to a remote oceanfront house to finally meet him.

The reunion curdles almost instantly. Dad turns out to be gruff, hard-drinking and openly irritated by his guest, and the warm welcome Norval imagined gives way to cold tension, then to something far nastier. Soon ugly truths about the old man start surfacing, and any hope of a heartfelt reconciliation is off the table.

Producer Ant Timpson's directing debut keeps swerving between awkward comedy and sudden violence, so you rarely see the next turn coming. Wood leans into the contrast, playing Norval as pathetic and ridiculous and genuinely funny because of it. One for viewers who like a genre film that refuses to go where you expect.
