Synopsis
The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964) is a family fantasy comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Henry Limpet, a timid bookkeeper, has spent his whole life daydreaming about the sea and the fish in it. One day his deepest wish comes true: he tumbles off a pier and turns into a talking fish.
Underwater, the meek little clerk finds what dry land never gave him — nerve and a purpose. It's the middle of World War II, and Limpet offers his services to the U.S. Navy, tracking down German U-boats and guiding Allied ships onto them. An oddball fish becomes a secret weapon of the war.
Arthur Lubin's film blends live actors with hand-drawn animation, rendering the underwater Limpet in the style of early Warner Bros. cartoons. Don Knotts voices the hero, and that unmistakable nervous whine makes the fish genuinely endearing. It's a sweet, old-fashioned pick for a family night.
