Synopsis
A Hijacking (Kapringen, 2012) is a Danish thriller directed by Tobias Lindholm that you can watch online on iFILM. A cargo ship is seized somewhere in the Indian Ocean. Seven crew members are locked on board. Back in Copenhagen, the phones at the shipping company's headquarters start ringing and don't stop.
Lindholm splits the film across two fronts and refuses to let either one off the hook. On the ship, the days blur into weeks: food portions shrink, drinking water runs low, and the cook Mikkel — played by Pilou Asbæk — grows harder to reach with each passing day. In the glass-walled boardroom, CEO Peter Ludvigsen (Søren Malling) is caught between a professional negotiator's cold arithmetic, the anguish of the crew's families, and his own growing doubt about whether he's doing the right thing.
What makes the film cut deep is its refusal to manufacture relief. No last-minute extraction, no cathartic confrontation — just the grinding, asymmetrical weight of waiting, drawn out on both sides of the ocean. Denmark selected it as its Oscar submission for 2013.
