Synopsis
Alien Worlds (2020) is a Netflix science documentary series you can watch online on iFILM, narrated by Sophie Okonedo. The premise is rigorous rather than fantastical: take the biological rules that govern life on Earth — natural selection, parasitism, colonial behaviour, predator-prey dynamics — and calculate what they would produce on planets with different gravity, two suns, or a methane-thick sky.
Each episode pairs real wildlife footage with expert commentary from researchers including astrobiologist Natalie Batalha, then uses CGI to visualise the hypothetical creatures the science suggests.
