Synopsis
High Heels (Tacones lejanos, 1991) is Pedro Almodóvar's melodrama with a crime running through it, and it's yours to watch online on iFILM. A mother and daughter, apart for fifteen years, reunite over a dead body.
Becky del Páramo (Marisa Paredes) is a fading pop star who once walked out on her child to chase fame. Now she's back in Madrid for a comeback tour. Her daughter Rebeca (Victoria Abril) is a TV news anchor, married to Manuel, a man who used to be Becky's lover. Old wounds, jealousy and an aching need for her mother knot together fast. Then Manuel is murdered, and on her own broadcast Rebeca confesses to the killing, either owning the crime or shielding the woman who abandoned her.
Almodóvar blends genres with brazen ease: a weepy mother-daughter saga, a murder mystery, and almost a musical, carried by songs from Luz Casal. A drag performer named Femme Letal weaves through the plot, and a young Javier Bardem turns up in a small role. The result is bright, sly and unexpectedly tender.
