Synopsis

Wakefield (2017) is a character drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Robin Swicord from an E.L. Doctorow short story. Howard Wakefield, a comfortable New York lawyer, comes home one evening and simply doesn't walk inside — instead he moves into the attic of the garage across the driveway.

The trigger is almost a joke: chasing a brazen raccoon sends Howard up the stairs, where he can see straight into his own lit-up living room. He decides not to go back. No call, no explanation — he just watches. He sees his wife Diana wait, then rage, then slowly build a life without him; he watches his daughters grow and the neighbors trade gossip about the vanished husband. Bryan Cranston holds nearly every frame alone, the whole story riding on his bitter, funny, occasionally unsettling voiceover.

Jennifer Garner plays Diana almost entirely through a window, wordless, and it lands. It's a small, talky film about a man who erases himself from his own life to learn what he was actually worth. One for viewers who like slow, interior dramas anchored by a single performance. Stream Wakefield (2017) online on iFILM.
