Synopsis
Corpus Christi (Boże Ciało, 2019) is a Polish drama by director Jan Komasa that you can watch online on iFILM. Daniel, twenty years old and fresh out of a juvenile detention center, burns to become a priest. His record slams that door shut: no seminary will take a convict.
Sent to labor at a sawmill in a remote town, he instead slips on a clerical collar and is mistaken for the parish's new priest. He plays along. Daniel can't recite the liturgy, so he improvises sermons out of his own scars rather than scripture, and that raw honesty reaches a congregation still fractured by a deadly road accident from the year before. Bartosz Bielenia carries the whole film in his face, holding rapture and panic in a single look.
Komasa strips the gilt off the subject and asks a sharp question: can a fake priest do real good? The film stood for Poland at the Academy Awards and made the final five for Best International Feature in 2020, after sweeping prizes back home. If you want intelligent European cinema with a moral splinter under the skin, this one stays with you. Stream Corpus Christi (2019) online on iFILM.
