The Drop

The Drop (2014) is a crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. Belgian director Michaël R. Roskam adapted a Dennis Lehane short story and built a slow-burn Brooklyn thriller anchored by Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini in his final screen role.

Bob Saginowski tends bar at a place his cousin Marv used to own — until Chechen gangsters took over. The bar is a drop spot, a collection point for dirty cash from across the neighborhood. One night a robbery hits the place, and the investigation that follows starts pulling at threads nobody wanted touched. Bob says little. He finds an abandoned puppy in a trash can. He seems harmless enough.

Roskam keeps the film quiet and compressed, letting the tension build in silences rather than confrontations. Hardy plays Bob as a man with a very still surface and something much colder underneath.
