Synopsis
The Brats (Les Gamins, 2013) is a French comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Anthony Marciano. Gilbert is past fifty and three decades into a marriage with health-obsessed Suzanne, quietly miserable, when his daughter's fiancé walks through the door.
Thomas has just proposed to Lola and shows up hoping to win over her parents. What he gets instead is a warning: don't do it, kid, don't make my mistake. So the two men, one worn down by family life and the other not yet trapped in it, ditch the women in their lives and try to relive a youth they think they missed. Alain Chabat and Max Boublil play the runaway pair, with Sandrine Kiberlain as the wife everyone is so quick to write off. Iggy Pop turns up in a small role.
It's a breezy take on the midlife panic and the fear of growing up, paced with that brisk French comic timing. No lectures, just a simple idea underneath the gags: the freedom these two chase usually isn't where they're looking for it. Good for a low-effort, feel-light evening.
