Synopsis
"House of Dark Shadows" (1970) is available to watch online on iFILM. Director Dan Curtis created the original Dark Shadows TV soap opera and then helmed this theatrical version himself — deliberately pushing the horror past anything afternoon television could show.
Barnabas Collins wakes in the family crypt after centuries and starts hunting again. Dr. Julia Hoffman (Grayson Hall) offers him a cure for vampirism, and Barnabas accepts: he's found Maggie, who looks exactly like the fiancée he lost long ago. Jonathan Frid plays the vampire with a quiet, worn-out melancholy the TV show only hinted at, and Curtis doesn't cut away from the violence.
